Boudoir is all about the experience at your photoshoot, but we can’t deny that half the fun is shopping for new outfits! This is your chance to really let your style shine. You can shop your closet for unique outfits or take this opportunity to splurge on some new sets! Either way, you’ll look stunning! Now that you’re excited to start shopping, where do you start? In this article, I’ll give you some helpful tips, what to look for, and my top 10 outfit choices.
Helpful Tips
Before we jump into the good stuff, I want to share some useful tips from my experience with boudoir!
Be true to yourself!
Start by choosing lingerie that makes you feel confident and beautiful. If these choices aren’t lingerie that's totally fine too! The most important thing is that it shows your personality. Whether you want something delicate and classic or tough and edgy is entirely up to you.
Color:
Avoid bright colors, neons, and busy patterns like animal print. These don’t photograph well and detract from your beautiful complexion.
Try to opt for blacks, neutrals such as creams and whites, pastels, or dark colors. Some of my favorites are dark blue, black, and pastel pink!
Cut off all tags
These will show in your photos and won’t look pretty!
Try on your outfits!
Some outfits are rather complicated and take a little practice so you feel confident and comfortable. Please make sure you put on all your outfits so you can make sure they fit and know how to put them on!
Pro tip: to help with pre-shoot jitters, try dancing around your house in each outfit. This will make you feel so comfortable, it’s like you’re wearing sweatpants!
Shop your closet:
I always like to tell clients to shop their closet first. Not only will you find some cute outfits you already own, but you will also get an idea of your personal touch. Think of styles like punk, boho, or glam!
Add a personal touch:
Boudoir is about celebrating your story and journey. Every scar, every milestone, and every memento. While looking, try to find pieces with personal or sentimental touches. This could be jewelry, your significant other's button-down, or your honeymoon outfit. Also consider your favorite hobbies like painting, video games, or reading!
Pro tip: When shopping for outfits pay attention to how it looks from the front and the back! More than half of your photos are taken from behind (if you catch my drift!). So, make sure you like how it looks from every angle. Look for outfits that create an interesting silhouette. Simple details like metal charms, interesting straps, and unique cutouts add a world of difference to your look!
1. Props and Accessories
Some of the best items you can bring to your shoot aren’t clothing, it's accessories! These can really enhance your image and add that personal touch. Especially when your photographer gets detail shots of these accessories, you’ll be glad you brought them!
A couple of my favorite options are:
Chokers and body jewelry
Pearl necklaces
wide brim hats
Books
whips, handcuffs, and bondage restraints are fun too!
Pro Tip: Ask you boudoir studio what props they may already have. Some boudoir studios may have select props for client use. At Polaris Boudoir, we have various props to fit many hobbies and "spice" levels!

2. Bodysuit
A popular choice is a teddy or bodysuit. There are so many options for styles with teddies from full lace to open back and strappy. I recommend ones with lace and unique cutouts. Bodysuits are a great way to shape your curves and they look good on almost any body type. Bring one of these and we’re sure to get some great shots!

3. Fishnets and Stockings
Now we’re talking! Fishnets are one of my absolute favorite boudoir outfits. No question, these will really spice up your photos. They have a way of making your natural curves pop! Fishnets can sometimes be intimidating and may not be everyone's cup of tea. But I promise you, if you’re bold enough to rock them, they will add a dramatic punch to any photo! Another similar option to fishnets is thigh-high stockings! These can make for some fun and playful shots. Pair your stockings with a garter belt and heels and you have a killer outfit, babe!
Never bought fishnets before? Don't worry check out these Amazon picks below!
4. Matching Bra and Panty Set
A classic choice, but absolutely unforgettable. In fact, we encourage each of our clients to bring at least one bra and panty set to their shoot. This is a versatile choice that can be used in multiple ways to get a variety of shots. it can be paired with anything from heels to garter belts or even jeans!
While shopping, I recommend looking for interesting patterns such as lace or fun straps. These details can add interest to your beautiful silhouette!
Pro tip: If you have a favorite color, try getting a pastel or dark version of that color.

5. Shoes
Shoes can be fun and playful in photos. They are also a great way to accentuate your legs and make you look taller. It's best to opt for higher heals such as stilettos. Although boots with high heels are cute too! If you have a hard time with heels, don’t worry because there won’t be a ton of walking at your shoot.

6. Cocktail Dress
A beautiful dress is a great way to tell a story through your photo shoot. This is the beginning of your boudoir story. When you flip through the pages of your album and see these images at the beginning it’ll add life to your collection. Transitioning realistically from a dress to lingerie will help create a boudoir journey more than a photoshoot.
Not only can a dress add a powerful message it is also a good icebreaker outfit to help relax if you are shy about lingerie. don’t worry, nerves are totally normal, and you’ll find confidence real quick!
7. Corset
A good corset can add a vintage elegant look to your shoot. Corsets, kind of like bodysuits, can also help you feel more comfortable and confident if you are shy about lingerie. If you would like an outfit option that enhances your natural curves and beauty, this is a great choice! A bonus to wearing a corset is it can push those girls up!

8. Everyday Clothes
It doesn't always take lingerie to feel confident and sexy. You can create a beautiful boudoir look with just a simple T-shirt and jeans. This can create a very casual look that'll help your photos feel more natural and realistic. A bonus side effect is that you'll realize you're stunning whether you're in a loose t-shirt or lace panties!
Here are some everyday options that may already be in your closet:
Off-the-shoulder sweater
Crop top
Jean shorts or pants
Button up shirt
Mini Skirt

9. Robes/ Kimonos
Ever imagined lounging around your house in a beautiful pair of lingerie while wrapped in a silk robe? Yeah, me too. As impractical as this may sound, it sure does make for some luxurious and elegant images.
Here are a few pointers when searching for a robe or kimono:
Opt for dark or light colors such as dark red, blue, or black. You could also go with a classic blush or champagne.
Try searching for robes in either silk or lace. These will look the most elegant.
10. Just a Sheet or Birthday Suite
This is a great way to end your shoot! This choice may not be for everyone, but I promise you won't regret it if you take the leap. You are always welcome to opt for a nude thong and nipple pasties if you like the look but don't want to go all out. Boudoir is all about celebrating your natural beauty by capturing the way light dances across your skin. Embracing yourself in the purest form is the most empowering thing you can do. It is such a natural way to end your boudoir story. not only will you feel your progression from nervous to confident, but you will see it in the images we capture.
Are you ready to rock that photoshoot? Don't let your outfit choices worry you. As long as you stay true to yourself you can't go wrong! Deciding on what outfits to wear may seem intimidating, but as long as you feel confident and comfortable you'll look stunning!
